Practical Gift Baskets For College Students Flagstaff Parents Will Appreciate

By Peter Hill

Going off to school is an exciting adventure for most kids. It's the first real taste of independence for many of them. Their parents are usually biting their nails and insisting on making plans for every possible scenario and creating lists of clothes, furnishings, and incidentals to pack. Once safely settled in, kids are always in need of extras. That's why they so eagerly anticipate the gift baskets for college students Flagstaff parents keep sending.

No student is going to turn down care packages filled with sweets, but eventually they will need to make some healthier choices. Instead of cookies and candy, send a basket full of single serving meal packages, microwave cookware, and a good quality water bottle. There are large ceramic mugs that come with vented lids. They are big enough to heat one of the single serving meals.

Water bottles are good choices for care packages. You can get them big enough to hold enough coffee or flavored water to last through a morning of classes or an afternoon in the study lounge. They may even be the encouragement your youngster needs to get the coffee pot going instead of spending five dollars on a calorie laden latte. The packaged meals are good for kids to have late at night or when they don't feel like walking to the cafeteria.

Most kids at school can use packages of socks and underwear. You can put together a great care package filled with a dozen pairs of colorful socks along with some laundry pods, and a phone charger and extra long cord. Sending new socks along with laundry detergent might be the incentive your kid needs to actually wash the socks.

Things like detergent and cleaning supplies are expensive for kids on tight budgets. Throwing in disinfecting wipes and air fresheners with the pods is a good idea. Sending a charger with an extra long cord will allow them to keep the phone with them wherever they are in a room.

Not everything you send has to be practical. Baskets filled with toys, room decorations, and oil diffusers will be a big hit. All kids need some down time. A basket of small items like slinkies, frisbees, paddles and balls, and a basketball hoop that fits over the door will be a great stress reliever especially around finals. You just have to make sure whatever you put in the basket won't break the rules or destroy the room.

Student apartments and dorm rooms can be pretty plain without decorations. Sending some holiday accessories will give new roommates a chance to get to know one another better. Spending time planning how and where to hang the garlands and lights you sent can be a bonding experience. A diffuser filled with pine scent will add to the general aura and mask unpleasant odors.

Getting a package from home is a treat for kids. It really doesn't matter what you put in it. If it's something they need, can use, and will enjoy, that's great. It really is the thought that counts.
